Berlin Packaging provided a glass bottle for beverage start-up CideRoad that features an embossed tire tread.
CideRoad (pronounced side-road) has taken on the task of reintroducing America to the blend of water, apple cider vinegar, maple syrup and ginger that is said to be as old as the American Revolution. It’s a re-imagining of switchel, one of America’s oldest beverages.
The brand needed to make a splash at retail so its owners approached Berlin Packaging with the task of creating a glass bottle that would provide a safe and convenient drinking experience, allow for easy pouring, and establish the brand distinctively on grocery shelves.
Using CideRoad’s truck emblem for inspiration, Berlin responded with a 270 gram, 100% recyclable glass container that suits the traditional nature of switchel, but with a modern twist: it features a custom-molded tire tread embossment encircling the bottle top-and-bottom. The innovative design provides an easy, reliable hand grip while reinforcing the brand personality.
A 38mm opening, capped by a domestically-sourced stock closure, completes the package. The result is cost-effective, appropriate to the historic, rural aspect of switchel—yet achieves all the beverage maker’s marketing objectives.
CideRoad’s all-organic product, in blueberry, cherry and original flavors, has quickly gained distribution in natural food markets and specialty retailers.
