French champagne Dom Pérignon has commissioned The Design Laboratory to design a range of limited-edition packs inspired by the work of artist Andy Warhol.
The Design Laboratory, which is based in London’s Central Saint Martins college and helps art and design students make the step from coursework to the design industry, has created a colourful take on Dom Pérignon’s iconic golden crest for the special bottles.
Taking cues from legendary pop artist Andy Warhol’s vibrant 1960s screenprints of subjects such as Marilyn Monroe, the Laboratory has produced a range of three bottles that swaps the brand’s traditional label for red, blue and yellow versions.
The champagne comes packed in a box featuring images of the bottles, again paying homage to Warhol’s work. The back of each box features an excerpt from the artist’s diaries and his signature.
Central Saint Martins’ Design Laboratory employs graduates as part of a creative team of designers in a studio environment. The students work on commercial briefs to real deadlines, with real fees and a wide range of clients.
Its contacts include celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck Restaurant, FremantleMedia, Intel and Adidas.
