Designer creates flamenco dress from Sainsbury’s carrier bags

Sainsbury’s is using a flamenco dress made from plastic carrier bags as part of a campaign to encourage shoppers to reuse bags in the run up to Christmas.

The retailer will be giving out free Bags for Life this Saturday and double Nectar points for each bag reused for a week.

The flamenco-style dress was created by designer Adnan Bayyat who hand-crocheted the bags together.

“The dress took me a whole month to make, but the result is stunning and vibrant. It’s also very positive to use my fashion design skills to make something that can promote reusing and recycling.

The dress – modelled here by Shanice Bailey-Farrell who works at Sainsbury’s Islington store – will be loaned to Manchester’s Gallery of Costume as part of an installation on the beauty of reusing everyday items.
