Polyethylene Terephthalate, (PET), in its biaxially oriented form, is a fast growth flexible packaging material, which offers strength, tear resistance, high clarity, chemical and heat resistance, including gas barrier properties. It is however, only moderately moisture proof and needs a coated or co-extruded surface layer(s) for heat seal purposes.Polyester film is widely used as a substrate for metallizing and laminating. It is ideal for lamination with substrates like polyethlene, polypropylene, aluminum foil, etc., or for coating with polyvinyl chloride.Markets in which it has contributed to growth include dual ovenable and microwaveable container lidding, bag in box applications, MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) for meats, fish and dairy products, and frozen food applications.
