20％ PET Bottle Collections Beckons More Promising Future

According to trade association Petcore（PET containers recycling Europe）, over the past year（2007）about 40％ of PET bottles in Europe were gathered for recycling. And the total amount accounted for 1.13m tonnes, rising by 20％, or 40％ of the total amount on the market.
Among the recycled PET categories, blowmoulding amounted to 18％, sheet market amounted to 24％, and strapping totalized 32％. Compared with 2006, the increasing has lightened up the possibility of better recycling in the near future.
Roberto Bertaggia, Petcore chairman, delighted the result and regarded PET as “the most important polymer” living up to European plastics recycling targets.
EU member asserts require to recycle a minimum 22.8％ of plastic packaging in the household waste flow this year, according to the Packaging and Packaging Waste directive. It expects to increase to 50％ by 2010.
