White House sustains commitment to eco-friendly Easter Egg Roll

Linda Casey -- Packaging Digest, 4/2/2010 11:57:47 AM

2010 marks the second consecutive year in which the egg packaging for the annual White House Easter Egg Roll has been made from Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) chain-of-custody certified paperboard.

The SFI-certified packaging will be used to carry commemorative FSC-certified wooden eggs. The eggs, which are produced and sold by the National Park Foundation , include the stamped signatures of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Proceeds from souvenir eggs are used to support the event held on the White House South Lawn, which is one of the 392 national parks in the U.S.

"SFI is happy to play a small role in this wonderful American tradition," remarks Kathy Abusow, president and CEO of SFI. "We hope the White House and other government entitWhite House Easter Egg sustainable printingies increasingly use certified products, as it sends a signal when leadership institutions promote responsible forestry by sourcing certified products."
