World recycling conference delegates tour Closed Loop

Recycling firm Closed Loop hosted a meeting of leading environmental and recycling industry figures from around the globe this week as part of a worldwide initiative to tackle climate change.

Delegates from the C40 London Waste Workshop, a three-day meeting of major world cities opened by Mayor of London Boris Johnson at the capital's City Hall, visited Closed Loop's Dagenham facility to learn more about the company and its role in the UK's pioneering of food-grade recycling.

Closed Loop managing director Chris Dow led the tour of the site, on which the influential visitors learned about the firm's work with brands such as Britvic, Solo Cup and retailers such as M&S to use more recycled food-grade plastic in packaging for food and drinks.

"We are delighted to be asked to work with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group to host the tours and highlight to some of the world's most influential environmental figures London's waste action plan," said Dow.

"At Closed Loop we are proud that our state-of-the-art facility is making such a positive contribution to the UK's transition to a low-carbon economy."

The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group hosts a variety of workshops each year in order for member cities, such as London, Rio de Janeiro and San Francisco, to share information on the latest initiatives and technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Closed Loop's Dagenham site is the world's first food-grade mixed plastics recycling facility, which reprocesses 35,000 tonnes of recovered plastic bottles a year to make recycled raw material for new food and drink packaging.
