Simeon Goldstein: Packaging as art
2010-03-29

We all know that sex sells. Even Specsavers is getting in on the act by spoofing the Lynx advert, where hundreds of bikini-clad women are attracted to a man using its deodorant, in order to sell glasses.

Packaging, too, has not been left out. This month Tango is using temperature-sensitive inks to reveal a cheeky strapline on its cans as part of a promotion.

Whether this is appropriate or not is, of course, down to the individual consumer.

This week, Packaging News came across a
Russian website that shows a number of packaging designs that won't be to everyone's taste.

Now, as far as I can ascertain, the packaging is work by Russian artist Ramm ND, who uses packaging as the starting point for his creations.

The designs are certainly striking. There are also a large number of can designs on the website including one for Miller beer that has a picture of aliens on it.

Another design format is two cans that show a woman's leg in suspenders. This design would also appear to be beneficial from a sales perspective, as the consumer would need to buy two cans to create the full picture
