Limited-edition packaging for fragrances support tree-planting project

Linda Casey -- Packaging Digest, 2/9/2010 10:51:20 AM

For every bottle of Hugo Man and Hugo Element fragrances sold in limited-edition packaging, Hugo Fragrances in cooperation with environmental organization Pur will plant a tree in Peru's Amazonian Rainforest. Hugo has produced 400,000 of the specially packed fragrances.

Each special edition packaging of Hugo Man and Element includes a unique "tree code" that allows customers to look up on Google Earth the tree their purchase sponsored. The Peruvian plantation sponsored by the HUGO/Pur project covers 800 hectares, approximately three times the area of NYC's Central Park.

The fragrance company says both the increasingly eco-conscious outlook of consumers and the oxygen tank shaped Hugo Element bottle inspired this sustainability project. Hugo also is inviting designers, illustrators and photographers to contribute to the reforestation project by creating marketing visuals. Designs should contain the Hugo Man bottle and convey a strong concept in line with the theme "One Fragrance, One Tree." Submissions will be accepted until February 28, 2010.
