Team Consulting presented its new ‘unboxing’ packaging concept for medical devices at this year’s Pharmapack Europe in Paris.
This year’s conference and exhibition focused on placing the patient at the centre of the innovation process. In line with this theme, Team’s unboxing design concept helps patients cope with the emotional and physical demands of self-injection.
The intuitive design concept for an auto injector trainer pack was inspired by the online videos of consumers slowly unpacking new gadgets and smartphones, where anticipation builds as the levels of packaging are removed.
“Even when using medical devices, human factor studies found some people don’t look at the instructions for use and this leads to a myriad of usability and anxiety issues,” said Team Consulting’s David Robinson, who first conceptualised the design.
“Our concept, inspired by the trend of consumers videoing themselves unboxing new gadgets like iPhones, attempts to solve these issues and reduce the stress and anxiety associated with self-injection. Think of a pop-up book; as each page is turned to access the device, information is presented to users in bite-size chunks. This removes the fear factor and simplifies the process for the patient, educating them and drawing them in.
