Industry Overview
The Canadian market for food processing and packaging equipment has grown at a steady pace in recent years. This growth can be attributed to the continuing development of new facilities to handle crops, as well as increases in food and commodity exports to meet growing global demand. Accounting for 45% of market share, the US is the main supplier of food processing and packaging equipment in Canada. Yet the European counterparts remain competitive in the market.

Demand for packaging equipment import in the Canadian market has grown by 70% in recent years. The next two countries in the top ten for imports are Germany [with a 20% share] and Italy [with a 1% share]. Other major export countries are the Netherlands, France and Japan.

The Canadian beverage packaging industry is dominated by metal packaging. Demand for rigid plastic rises in the beverage sector. Canadian machinery manufacturers continue to expand marketing and sales, focusing from North America to global markets. Given that both the Canadian and U.S. markets share a great deal of similarities, the Canadian packaging machinery industry derives the major share of its business from the US markets.
