PMMI U opens student competition at PACK EXPO 2010
The call is out for the second annual PMMI U Student Design Competition. Teams from PMMI partner schools have been invited and will be tasked with using PACK EXPO International 2010 (Oct. 31–Nov. 3; McCormick Place, Chicago) and Packexpo.com to find a conveying-related packaging line solution.
Participating teams of students will have a new perspective of PACK EXPO and their prospective careers, says Maria Ferrante, vice president, Education & Workforce Development, PMMI.
“The students will address a typical packaging-line challenge, and use PACK EXPO to find the solution — just as they likely will after graduation,” Ferrante says. “They’ll receive the assignment and begin researching potential solutions in early August. Then, in the fall, they’ll attend PACK EXPO, meet with exhibitors, and finalize and present their recommendations to our panel of judges.”
Executives from four consumer goods companies have volunteered to judge the contest:
• Doug Farrell, President/GM, Redco Foods
• Brian Peterson, Packaging Manager, Weetabix Canada;
• Paul Redwood, Sr. Research Engineer, Church & Dwight
• Art Sagy, Global System Development, KRAFT
Winners will be announced Monday, Nov. 1, at the Packaging Hall of Fame reception, and all entries will be on display in the Education & Workforce Development Pavilion (Level 3, Main Concourse).
