Taking up Medical Pack Barcode---EFPIA Go Ahead
2008-11-28
The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries Associations (EFPIA)is going to carry out barcode system which medicine packs could be certified by pharmacists before they submit it to consumers.
The pronouncement was made under the pressure of the European Commission(EC)which organized public consultation and intended to get rid of fraudulent medicines. In order to guarantee product credibility and traceability, the EC is hoping to trace whole distribution lines back to pharmaceutical regulation.
According to current EU regulations, products can be re-packed including reboxing, relabeling and retaping stickers. All security seals and specific identification codes will be removed and wiped out for reconditioning and repackaging. The several steps are considered in order to provide nice products.
EFPIA attempted to diminish the possibility of medicine repackaging. The practice of the upcoming system is going to make sure the reliability of the original package. In that way, consumption security could be ensured enough that patients will not be innocently endangered
