Swedish vodka brand adopts Petainer PET bottle

Plastics packaging specialist Petainer is producing PET bottles for an organic Swedish vodka range.

Last November, Rexam sold Petainer to Next Wave Ventures, WHEB Ventures and senior management for £16m  as part of the restructuring of its plastics packaging division.

Petainer's Lidköping plant in Sweden is supplying 70cl clear PET bottles with branded sleeves to Sailor brand vodka producer Galatea, which is a major supplier to monopoly alcohol retailer Systembolaget.

The container is said to be easy to manufacture in high volumes while maintaining high levels of clarity and shelf appeal.

Peter Edin, product manager at Galatea, said: "It is important that the bottles should reflect the quality of the Sailor brand and Petainer is able to deliver this quality reliably and consistently."

Petainer said that PET bottles offered brand owners an "ecological packaging alternative" to equivalent glass bottles because they took around 58% less energy to produce and weighed less.
