Rexam uses heat-sensitive ink for cider can

Carlsberg is to launch its Somersby Apple Cider in a limited-edition Rexam can that indicates when the can has been chilled to the right temperature.

The 33cl aluminium can has been printed with thermochromic ink that changes colour when the can is chilled.

Carlsberg will replace all of its Somersby Apple Cider in Denmark with the new limited-edition cans from the beginning of May until the end of August.

"Cider is a very refreshing product that is even more enjoyable when served ice cold," said Carlsberg marketing consultant Marc Larsen.

"The thermochromic ink on these limited-edition cans functions as a perfect indicator for the cider's drinkability."

Rexam operates in the beverage can and rigid plastics market. The company has sales in the region of £4.6bn and is headquartered in the UK.
