AR Metallizing has had a new patent granted in Belgium and Italy for its production technique for multi-layered laminated and metallised paperboard.

Already registered in the Netherlands, the laminated paperboard is an alternative to the current glossy packaging materials for consumer goods.

It derives its strength from a combination of different thin layers of cardboard or paper with a razor-thin metal top layer.

With this laminate lay-up, the paperboard is lighter and fewer raw materials are used.

AR Metallizing said the board is fully biologically degradable and recyclable, and no plastic or foil is processed.
