Saica Pack promotes CFQ standard for produce trays
2017-04-24

From:Packaging News

Saica Pack has helped to promote the new Common Footprint Quality (CFQ) standard for produce trays in a move that will provide consistency in packaging across Europe.

Saica Pack UK was one of a handful of companies to work alongside the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) on the introduction of the CFQ standard in the UK. The accreditation lays down criteria for produce trays based on strength, size, shape and stackability.

As one of only two packaging companies to have a fresh produce division in the UK, this accreditation brings yet more value to Saica Pack’s customers, offering them the option of ordering CFQ accredited boxes for their products.

Saica Pack are one of the largest fresh produce tray producers in the UK, and the CFQ accreditation offers customers an additional assurance of quality that is validated both internally and independently within atmosphere conditioned laboratories to ensure the correct level of performance is given. An independent auditor will also visit CFQ manufacturing sites twice yearly to carry out an audit on processes and protocol.
Once these tests have been carried out, this quality assurance is sealed with a CFQ accredited logo stamped onto the trays, ensuring that the box is fit for purpose.
Richard Knight, Fresh Pack UK & Ireland market manager, SAICA Pack, said: “Here at SAICA we are extremely proud that our CFQ boxes all passed the tests and are now fully accredited and available. SAICA Pack is very proud to be a key driver of the CFQ project and being fully accredited means we can now offer CFQ boxes, providing an extra assurance of quality to our customers.”

Andy Barnetson, director of packaging affairs, CPI, said: “The new CFQ standard will further improve the efficiency of the fresh produce supply chain and it demonstrates that the UK Corrugated Industry is constantly striving to provide the best possible packaging solutions for customers.

“We are very pleased that Saica Pack is investing in this important new development.”
